²⁶ Joshua did not lower his hand that held the javelin until he had completely destroyed all the inhabitants of Ai. ²⁷ But the livestock and the plunder from that city the Israelites took as spoils of war for themselves, according to the word of the Lord that he had commanded Joshua.

²⁸ Then Joshua burned Ai and reduced it to a mound of rubble, which lies in ruins to this day.
